The character designs are a far-cry from the usual pokemon style and they look fairly odd especially with the huge space between the eyes on a lot of characters.
As for the plot, how can you not say closing off the heart of pokemon to gain more power and letting them to attack trainers with no remorse isn't edgy?
The GC games are some of the most linear games to date even when you include the unova and kalos games, there's no arguing that.
It's even more apparent with the lack of exploration which even the gen 5 and 6 games had to an extent. That being said the story Mt. Battle was a good place to train up pokemon.
Shadow pokemon relate to the edge factor and how back then Deviantart was mostly used for "dark" versions of characters or evil OC. There weren't many actual artists there back then.
The regional design is subjective somewhat however it is fairly boring again relating to the lack of exploration and the fact that between cities was just an empty desert and towns were fairly small.
Music is completely subjective.
The Pokemon you were allowed to use in those games weren't actually good until later generations, specifically gens 4 and higher.
Stealing in a children's game shouldn't be encouraged especially if it's the game's equivalent of animals. It may be "new"
which is wasn't really because you just caught a pokemon normally. but that doesn't mean it was good.
The whole heart is closed thing is a complaint about the whole "chosen one" plot and how it doesn't make sense, especially with how training is one of the main ways to open a pokemon's heart and you steal them away from regular trainers that could do the same.
Purifying has nothing to do with difficulty but how long it took, especially with mons later on.
As for the bosses neither of you really have a point there.
That being said Evice and Inity do share two pokemon.
