If regi got protect, every moveset would have to run it, limiting his coverage.

Having to choose between drain punch/knock off/ice punch/fire punch/eq for the other 2 attacks would be too limiting, assuming you run 3 attacks.

Wow, I was never interested in running Gigas but holy shit, every single other Pokemon gets protect (except for maybe Feebas and Magikarp I think?) and they fucking took it away from him? Has there ever been a Pokemon punched harder in the balls by Gamefreak than Regigigas?

if it had mold breaker it'd be an inflated snorlax
