Not even a Genwunner, but the best pokemon designs are the simpler ones where they just take a real animal, make it cartoony and add one or at most two distinctive features to make it fantastical, like skull on head, fire on tail. and mushrooms on back.

everything already went wrong at generation 3. Colour palette's became way too bold and garish, a lot of designs became overly inorganic with pasted on facial features and perfectly spherical or bulbous body parts, it's a super blatant shift away from gens 1 and 2.
