Freeze is the most potent status effect because it's potentially unending and has no sleep talk/vital spirit/early bird equivalent. Sleep is you're inactive for 2-5 turns, freeze is just you have a 20% chance of thawing every turn.

freeze is a status intrinsic to ice type attacks, not ice types themselves. Freeze status does nothing to help ice types specifically and benefits anything with ice coverage aside from like hp ice users.

The only way Freeze cures is either praying for that 20% recovery chance or hoping the enemy uses a Fire attack. Sleep wears off after 2-3 turns, and you can still act while having poison or burns, and you have a decent chance of acting while paralyzed. When a mon is frozen they're completely crippled, and there's not really a good way to counter it other than keep the moves that have a chance to freeze under a tight control.

I don't understand what you mean by this. Freeze status is not an asset specific to ice types and freeze status is inconsistent and infrequent enough that a freeze immunity is irrelevant.

Why even bother? It's retarded to even make that statement, so the argument is immediately invalidated. There are literally only two moves that are not ice type that have a chance to cause freezing - secret power and tri attack - and both are gimicky normal attacks that only have freeze because their whole shtick is having a slew of status effects that could happen randomly. And only try attack is even playable of the two. Saying "ice isn't specifically benefited by freeze" is nonsense in every way. Is fire specfically benefitted by burn? No, considering that it's an offensive type, it fucking isn't. Is electric benefitted by paralysis? All the electric types are fast, anyway, so no. They are just random things that can happen that are rooted to types.

Otherwise it's pretty staple to basically anything that can run it, so the first thing you say when you think "I need ground type coverage" isn't "Oh, I'll run garchomp or excadrill", it's "Oh, I'll just put earthquake on my Terrakion or Salamence"

The longer it stays active the more chance moves have to freeze per turn up to 5 turns (freeze eventually wanes after 2-3 turns though if activated through freezerburn).
