I did it in Pokémon Rumble World because that game actually rewards me for collecting new species, unlike the main games. There's the shiny charm but that's worthless to me.

I don't plan on buying X/Y, but I've done it in Gen 3. Maybe if Gen 7 turns out spectacularly.

ORAS was the first time I ever actually "caught them all" legitimately with the certificate and everything.

XY is the only generation I did it for. It was pretty easy. Just time consuming.

I wanted to actually OWN all of them, but got tired of waiting. So I chained a shiny Inkay with Pokeradar, then traded it for Rayquaza on the GTS. I then traded Rayquaza for Kyogre, then Groudon, then the beasts, etc. Pokedex was complete in no time.

I'm almost in the exact same boat. ORAS is currently the closest I have to actually catching them all in the Hoenn dex at least. I'm so fucking close. I just can't find any of the necessary stones in order to evolve the ones I can. Then it's just a matter of leveling the mons I few mons I currently got left and trading for those precious last ones to force evolution or because I can't get them in my game. Groudon being one but it won't let me trade my Kyogre in GTS so I don't know what the fuck I'm gonna do about that one.

Just checked my game, I'm 75% done for Hoenn. If Deoxys 211, then I've seen 193 and caught 153.
My problems from the previous post still persist, though.

X, now OR about a week ago. I always hold on to my master ball in case of a teleporting/whirlwinding/selfdestroying shiny, and as I was dexnaving for a metalcoat off skarmories, I found a shiny skarmory whose first move was whirlwind.

Did it in almost every game I played, it was fastest in XY/ORAS of course because of easy trades & injection.
Also because no post-game in gen 6 at all so my time was entirely spent on completing the dex.
