Mixed is superior to just special or physical defensive, few pokémon can go mixed and infernape is one of them.
What do you do if chansey walls you? Just use a physical move.
What if gliscor walls you? Then unleash a special move.
Some pokemon are OU or even uber just because of their ability to go mixed, namely greninja.
Infernape also has a hidden ability, but it's just iron fist and it doesn't even get any good punching moves aside from thunderpunch.
