Why were starters and Rayquaza the only Gen III mons that get a new artwork? I know DW artworks exist but, fuck, even Gen I and II mons get new artworks in their remakes.

This. The art style changed after gen 2, so they had to remake all 251. But gen 3 and up are all okay by today's standard.

It peeves me off even more that the new games recycle old pokedex entries which is probably the absolute laziest thing they keep on doing. Just type two sentences for some mons who haven't had a new entry in 9 or so years, damn

Dex entries are supposed to be a brief bit of background on the Pokémon/its lore. How many variations do you need?

There's no end to the amount of information they could put in Dex entries. They could describe habitats, diets, interactions with humans, history of the species, etc. There's no reason why they can't expand it. I know nowadays entries are just recycled between games but in the past, sometimes when a Pokémon got a new Dex entry it would just be a reworded version of a previous Dex entry, which somehow seems even lazier.

I wouldn't mind a game where the MC works as an intern for a professor to discover new pokemon in a faraway land, or observe them upfront and work on pokedex entries or something like that, maybe a spin-off. Not sure about marketability, though.

rofl, exactly. Gen 3 is my gen, but we really don't need shit-not even this remake was all that necessary (except for the special/physical split necessitating it) since we can transfer from ruby/sapphire up.

I kinda like Emerald Torchic and Rayquaza more than the ORAS ones.

ORAS Treecko and Mudkip look way better though, so I suppose it's 50/50 for me.

I'm pretty sure it was Sugimori who drew the ORAS art for Rayquaza, it doesn't look like his style.
