Yes surprisingly. I had one in Gold from the ruins of...whatever. I thought that, if I caught all characters, Entei would appear. I kept a C in my party for the first initial of my name, and I was like 6 at the time so I didn't know about its fuckawful stats.

somewhat unrelated, but i did a run of x with smeargle, ditto, kecleon, castform, farfetch'd, and spinda to see if gimmick pokemon could be good.

castform and kecleon were beasts. smeargle and ditto are nigh unusuable. farfetch'd and spinda were very mediocre.

i imagine that unown would be about as usable as smeargle. if not less.

That ability's even more retarded since abilities can't fuck with movesets and any move you'd give to Unown's Mega would have to be given to base Unown too.

You're entirely forgetting that Hidden Power is a shitty move and this would basically just be a 125 base attack Pokemon hitting with a 120 base power attack.

Not even 75% as strong as regular Garchomp using outrage since at least it gets STAB on that, in addition to being able to hold an item.

That Unown is basically the equivalent of choice specs Pikachu using thunder.

yeah it was a protean kecleon. did real work. although by the time i beat the elite 4 it was fucking level 85.

and no i did not grind. it was a necessary level to beat the game with six, single stage, normal type, gimmick pokemon.

kecleon and castform carried the shit. everything else was about 20 levels lower. if not more. fuck smeargle. it is a shining example of how a pokemon can be good competitively but terrible in-game. trying to use it was suffering.

I did a runthrough of Y with Farfetch'D, Castform, Ditto, Corsola, Shuckle, and Dunsparce.

Wound up getting obsessed with the Battle Cheateu/Mansion (whichever one had the Duke ranks and shit) trying to get Grand Duke.

By the time I was out, I had two gym badges, and the team was in their eighties.

wound up restarting shortly after.

And I use Unown in my online Rating Battle Trick Room team.

I see this idea a lot, and frankly I find it boring. I thought it would be more interesting to make Hidden Power actually powerful than to spawn three somehow-different Hidden Power slots out of nowhere. >>23416458's justification is kind of my reasoning too.

Oh and for those who haven't seen this before, I should note; the Babel Sphere mentioned is a hypothetical Key Item I concieved for a hypothetical Unown side quest. It boosts Unowns' stats by 1 for each registered forme. When it's fully documented, you can take it back to the dungeon you found it in and uncover the Unownite. Wishful thinking, I know. I just wanna see the little guys get some love.
