Lightning.
It's understandable that a lot of people hate it because it's pushed, but there are some people who hate it just because it's popular. If you hate something only because it's popular, that's pretty fucking stupid.

I do like Mega Luke's design though, while regular Luke looks like garbage.

Admittedly Lucario's mega evolution is probably one of the best pokemon designs, feels like that is what it's base form should have looked like.

I like that it's a jackal with dreadlocks. It has a cool shiny that evokes Egypt.

I dislike that it's Steel type because it doesn't come across as one.

You're assuming it's steel when it's just a spike. Why isn't Beedrill Steel type? Or Donphan? Or Kabutops? Or Blastoise? Or Tauros? Etc.
