Ruining the franchise would be easy: Just give people what they want.

Turn the franchise into an open-world MMO. Make the combat bits an action game where you can also shout commands at your team. Remove any Pokémon older than gen 2, and don't add any new ones. Set it in the anime universe. Remove anything that adds complexity to the game, such as EVs and version exclusives. Finally, develop it exclusively for the PS4, possibly with an iPhone port further down the line.

You've now done most of the things idiots have been asking for, completely alienating everyone who actually plays the games in the process.

Option to join Team Rocket (but no other evil team)
More than six pokemon
More than four attacks
A special slot for HM moves which can only be used outside of battle
No local multiplayer
Mid-battle evolutions (mega-Shinka doesn't count)
Misty and Brock following you.
Call it Pokemon Rainbow (or just Pokemon).
