Grass knot is. The thing with moves is they are seperated into two categories. Special and Physical, and Contact and No Contact. They aren't mutually exclusive. Whether or not a move makes contact or not is based on whether or not the move actually makes contact. It's why Draining Kiss is a contact move and why Earthquake isn't.

Literally all you need to do is just have to switch the damage category and they will make 1000% more sense

In my headcanon;
With grass types it's them actually making roots and making the opponent trip (also why vine whip makes contact), and with other types they trip the other pokemon with other parts of their bodies, making contact (it's grass type like megahorn is bug type).

The kind of snare you're talking about is like Stealth Rocks/Spikes, where you put it down and wait for a Pokemon to land on it.
