Because he's not Gyarados. I love Gatr, but Gyara has Intimidate, better Special bulk and better speed. His Mega beats Rotom-W and Venusaur, and has STAB on Crunch. Gatrs only advantages are SD, Aqua Jet, and hitting harder.

Gatr is S rank in UU nonetheless, so he's by no means a shitmon. Just not a Gyarados.

Because sub boosting is normally easy to get around. Your opponent had two mons with STAB 90/130 base power moves and one of them resisted Feraligatr. If your opponent had reacted when you got your sub up he would have been fine.
