The safety of our users is one of Smogon/Pokémon Showdown’s primary concerns. Any time we learn of objectionable conduct by a member of our staff, we work to rectify it or eliminate it quickly.
Recently we learned that Haunter was engaging in manipulative and sometimes sexual conversations with female users on Pokémon Showdown. In at least one instance, the user claims to be under the age of consent according to US law.
Haunter has been demoted, debadged, and banned permanently from Smogon, Pokémon Showdown, and Smogon-affiliated IRC channels.
Smogon’s senior staff and Pokémon Showdowns staff are extremely disappointed in the recent treatment of female users across all sections of our sites. It is our goal moving forward to provide everyone with a more safe and equitable community experience.
If you ever feel unduly threatened, harassed, or manipulated, please contact one of the administrators as soon as possible. Do not continue to engage with anyone who makes you feel unsafe.
