Yeah you can say it makes the meta more varied, but it serves the same purpose as EVs and natures do.
Why do we need THREE different stat-altering mechanics when it could be relegated to sliders or something?
The "time and effort" you're referring to is padding. It doesn't actually take any effort, just time.
The fact that you people actually think IVs are good is what's stopping Pokemon from being a truly good competitive game.
I want to actually play. I like when Pokemon is hard.
Having IVs doesn't make it hard, it just puts more time between me playing the actual game part of the game.
