Everything went right. Hell, I'd argue that Mega Beedrill is the quintessential mega evolution. It took the basic design of Beedrill, and makes it look powerful. It took a weak pokemon and turns it into a genuine powerhouse.

The only problem is that it doesn't have Megahorn or Gunk Shot, but that's a problem with the movepool and not the mega evolution.

Lopunny, Blastoise and Heracross are all examples of Gamefreak modifying movesets specifically to accommodate megas, it's a shame they didn't here.

To be fair, Beedrill is an absolute fucking monster even with the relatively low BP moves, and with something as frail as it is, I'd be hesitant to fire off a Megahorn or Gunk Shot and risk a miss.

He needs Gunk Shot a lot more than Mega Horn. Mega Horn just means you have to choose between it or U-Turn. Gunk shot is the power move to sweep late game.

It could still get new moves, the way Gyarados got Crunch in ORAS.

However, I don't think Gunk Shot fits it flavorwise. The same could be said for Genesect, but I dunno why it gets it either. Megahorn looks appropriate for it because of the grand redesigned lances (a la Escavalier), but then you could be sacrificing coverage for it anyway. So maybe it's not worth it.

Nah, it really doesn't. Unless you're going against hyper offense, you almost always have the opportunity to Mega Evolve safely. Adamant Bee outspeeds most walls and even Adamant Base 70, as well as Tank Chomp. On top of that, most people expect the first turn Protect, so they predict it.

Xerneas legit shouldn't get megahorn though because the way its branches are structured doesn't fit with the way megahorn is depicted. Megahorn is a single thrusting horn xerneas has several antlers fanning out and away from his head he wouldn't be able to use them the same way say Heracross or Samurott do.

Beedrill should totally be able to use megahorn if Escavalier can though.

The move description doesn't preclude it from being able to use it. In fact, the move discription described it being more about ramming then stabbing.

A lot of pokemon don't have horns that could be used to stab but still get it. Bouffalant, Sawsbuck, Scolipede, etc. It's less about stabbing, and more about simply having horns and being able to ram.
