At least starting from gen IV and onwards, you can just chuck a Quick Ball at almost anything nasty and have a very large probability of capturing it. Doesn't work in double/hordes, but should work just fine for things that carry Selfdestruct, the chance of capture in is very high. You can fill half the dex just by throwing Quick Balls without thinking.

My first ever shiny was a wooper in the safari zone in pearl. I caught a bunch of those bastards by accidentally hitting "ball" instead of "run", but the one shiny won't stay in the damn ball and ran away.

During my first AS run, I went to catch a nice IV'd Swablu for breeding a Dragon move onto my Sceptile. First one I ended up finding using the DexNav had 3 perfect IV's, an Egg move and was a Shiny female.

Needless to say I just replaced my Sceptile

I skipped gen 4 and 5 and barely played the others, except for 6 which I played somewhat extensively. I found a shiny Minccino in a Safari. My only encounter with a shiny, ever.

And yes, I caught it. Shit nature though.

But yeah, under other circumstances... It's an emulator. I once came across a shiny when off to replace my pokeballs. I used the built in cheat engine to replenish my balls on the spot and caught it

Not like anybody will accept your emulator shinies as legitimate anyways

I went from the Kanto games, skipped Johto (All three games and most of the anime episodes) and went straight to Ruby so at the time I did not know what a shiny was. I encountered a shiny Zangoose in my game but thought it was a female Zangoose or something so I fainted it thinking I might encounter it later one day. Years went by and I wanted to hurt myself once I found out.

In Gen II they had four IVs at a guaranteed 10 (IVs in Gen II only went up to 15) so shinies, at the very least, give you an above average Pokemon without having to breed
