I haven't played a new Pokemon game since Platinum came out (although I played White 2 on an emulator) and I'm interested in the newest gen. I'm trying to snipe out a 3ds on Ebay, but which game would you guys suggest? X and Y or OR/AS?

ORAS has more features than XY, so it should be your go-to choice. Plus Z/XY2 could come out late this year or sometime next year, so you can hold off going to Kalos until then.

This happens every time a new game comes out. The latest Pokemon game is always the worst one in the series and the "Pokemon killer" that will end the series.

I played Red, Yellow and Gold. Dabbled a bit on emulators but never really got into it, so it sounds like I'm in a similar situation to you. I bought ORAS and it's absolutely fantastic. Seeing my old buddies like Beedrill and Venusaur being even stronger than ever and kicking ass is great. I really enjoyed the story too, the delta episode was a lot of fun.

Don't mind the shitposters, they love to be contrarians. But yeah, get ORAS, it's definitely the best one to get back into the series, not to mention that it has more content than XY, and since you missed a few games, it'll help you get a bunch of legendaries that you can use online (that is, assuming it isn't a banned one like Giratina).
