Ice/Steel is a well above average defensive type and actually good offensively. Bug/Grass are horrible and redundant offensive types and shit defensively. Ice/Steel Avalugg with a good ability (Refrigerate would be godly but Regenerator would be great too) would definitely work.

Eh, it would be decent, but not the end-all be-all spinner.
Still, Avalugg is a prime candidate for an ice/steel mega evo considering its movepool is full of steel-type moves and the pokedex entries say its body is harder than steel.

Avalugg's typing has never been its main problem, the low special bulk is.

Beside not making any sense as type it is pure cancer defensively. It can already tank well Rock Slide and Stone Edge, making it an Eearthquake and Fight attack bait has more cons than props, especially when it can already survive x2 Close Combat. Keep your shitty retypes like Ice/Steel and Grass/Dragon Serperior to those terrible Volt White and Blaze Black hacks. Seriously Ice / Steel is as terrible as Aurorus, every Pokemon has access to Hidden Power and Fire type attacks like Flamethrower and Fire Blast, with most of them being uninvested special coverage moves that now would be 100% OHKO coverage for this shitmon.

Not like people were expecting better competitive ideas from /vp/.

The best changes Avalugg may expect are Ice Shard, Icicle Spear and Counter.

Funny you mention Aurorus because it's actually decent and /vp/ is still retarded enough to think that a defensive type is everything you need to decide whether a pokemon is good or not.

Ice/Steel would give Avalugg a clear-cut niche and in a game where we have literally hundreds of mons having a niche is more important than being "generic good".

Skarmory gets 2HKO'd by any physical STAB fire or electric move, does it mean it can't serve its purpose as a wall as well?
The point was to show that if Avalugg isn't even 2HKO by things IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO CHECK, it's NEVER going to be beaten by thigìngs it IS supposed to (re. Mega Pinsir, Dragonite, SD Garchomp and just about any physical sweeper that doesn't have STAB SE moves).

Aurorus has a good ranking (into the A's) on Smogon RU because its many good traits (good stats, good movepool, great abilities) give it unique niches as a SR setter, wallbreaker and revenge killer against weather sweepers.

Considering 80% of pokemon reside in RU or below, it's not bad for something that /vp/ deemed complete shit because of its defensive type.

Arguably Aurorus' true bad quality is its low speed, which impacts it more than its defensive type.

I remembered how when XY came out, so many people thought it would be the physical variant to Blissey and get used in high tiers. It was considered UU for a while if I remember, then slowly went down to RU and then NU to the abysmal PU. During that ride, people were saying "It'll do fine in UU, RU, etc." and look where it is now.
