Even only comparing 70 episodes of each, DP had the Ash/Paul rivalry in full swing, Dawn's Contest arc, Hunter J and Galactic appearing, recurring characters, etc.
XY is only now just starting Serena's goal, the rivals like Tierno and Shota only JUST started showing up as major characters, etc.
