The new XY anime is pretty entertaining. I will say though, that a lot of what draws me in is nostalgia-related. I skipped over the Gen V games and took a break from Pokemon altogether until XY came out. When I started watching the anime (subbed btw) alongside the games, it just hit me at a good point. In addition to the improved art and animation, it really feels like they might be setting up Ash to get pretty far once the league starts up.
You still have filler episodes and the Team Rocket show-ups, but Ash's group is entertaining enough that they keep me interested. Also, watching the episodes in Japanese with subtitles adds something to the show that I can't really explain. I grew up watching it dubbed in English, but you can hear the enthusiasm and effort by the original Japanese voice actors and it's great.
If you're on the fence, I'd recommend going to the anime general, downloading the first 7 episodes subbed, and then decide if you wanna keep going after that. Like another anon said, we're not the target audience so keep that in mind. But the anime itself is fun and a great distraction from time to time.
