During its peak of popularity in the late 90's/early 00's, Pokemon was known for it's overkill on merchandising and marketing. Post the worst examples of milking the franchise back in the day.

The Pokemon League in my town has only about 6 people attending every week. Are they normally that small? Or maybe my town is really lacking in trading card game players.

I'm not sure what's normal nowadays since it's been a few years since I've been to a league. I think there were anywhere between 10-30 people back when I was attending regularly. Pre-releases were always packed, as well as bigger tournaments of course.

I recall looking through a pawn shop and seeing a bunch of pokemon themed tech-deck dude playsets.

Thing is, it was just an ordinary finger skateboard, two benches and table with the pokemon logo emblazoned on it, without even a single actual pokemon involved in the design.

And yes, the playset was complete, it even came with the box. Tried looking for a pic online but I guess nobody even bothered cataloging this shit, and honestly I don't blame them.
