Most of the best stages in the game, like Lickitung and Banette, are in the newer levels. The fact that the stages themselves are a bit harder only makes sense, as they are the next levels. You wouldn't expect them to be easier than what came before them, why would that make any sense? And as for the home button, it was never meant to be there in the first place. Yes that makes timed stages much harder, but that's the point. They're expert stages, only unlockable by getting optimal ranks on the regular game. You don't have to go for those S ranks, you don't have to play the expert stages to get through the main game. Just stick to the stages literally titled Main. Same thing for special, those are just DLC stages. The competitions are totally fine to be in the game. We're no longer in the age where games are single player only, it would then be criticized for not having any multiplayer aspects. They could do competitions for bonus items, or in other series things like character skins. It's extra content; it's either coming this way or not at all. It's meant to reward good players, as competitiveness is an innate human quality that drives our ambition. Plus it gets bad or new players to spend money to get the coins to win. It's not the same type of level as the main stages; that's why it's in special. Beating it doesn't mean depleting a life bar (if you notice there is none). Beating it is scoring high enough. Parts of the game you may enjoy, parts you may not. Decide if it's worth it to play, and if you get too stressed, then stop playing.
