Someone is saying they want to try one of the latest 3DS Pokemon games to try to get into the series.

Would you recommend ORAS or XY, and why?

Because I found kalos dull as a region. It got boring after the e4 and looker thing.

This. I mean, Kalos had a lot of potential to be really good, but after the second gym it just shows how much the game was rushed, and it's honestly pretty sad. Let's just hope they fix it for the third games.

Between these two (or four depending on how you look at it), I'd probably recommend XY because they have the biggest Pokedex from all main games. The amount of Pokemon you can catch before beating the game is crazy.

But I'd recommend starting with earlier games as well. Something like FRLG -> HGSS -> Emerald/ORAS -> Platinum -> BW -> BW2 -> XY. RBY and GSC are archaic so they are more suitable for retro gamers.

Yeah, and the pacing was just awful.
I personally like the hoenn routes better, I find them more colorful and diverse.
Kalos has good mons but god I can't stand traversing through the region.

There's also the little details they add in every game, like smoother battle transitions and completely free walking movement.
There's also the dexnav and bases.
All in all ORAS is a better choice.

I don't think the pacing was awful, moreso that it was just inconsistant. The 10-hour stretch between the first two gyms was cool, but that whole segment was 1/3rd of the whole game.

Can you tell me why XY make you feel like that? The feel of games being rushed I mean.

I understand that the road between the first and the second gym was quite lengthy but apart from it Kalos felt like every other region (in the sense that we had gym in almost every town). Just the start was inconsistent with the rest of the game.

Having gyms being really far from the last one in the beginning and then getting the latter ones constantly thrown at you really put me off, especially since I never felt that with the older games, but that's just my opinion.

I just hope they fix all the mistakes they did in the next game(s). I feel like Kalos has potential, it just hasn't been exploited yet.

It just felt barebone. There was barely post game and the villainous team escalated too quickly at the end to leave any impact, really. The whole weapon part was just so rushed that you're left standing wondering what the hell happened in the last hour of gameplay.

Also, coming from gen 5, that had a good amount of postgame, this one just didn't meet the expectations.

This is coming from someone who has played xy at least 4 times up to postgame, so I had the chance to revisit everything way after the hype ended.

Props to the new pokemon, though. There's a lot of personal favorites in there.
