I've always wondered something.

Are shit like Beedrill and Ledian capable of standing on their own vs gyms and E4?

Or do they need to be very overlevelled to stand a chance?

I think any non-gimmick pokemon can be used ingame, just not competitively. If you let Beeboy use his Mega then fuck it, he can probably solo any non-steel gym.

In XY I used a Beedrill, it didn't get any kills and couldn't do enough damage. I ended up giving it U-turn and Toxic Spikes to bee a lead.

Sorry, his shitmon examples were both bug type and it triggered me.

I've been thinking of doing a gimmicky solo run of ORAS. The closest I've ever come to doing a solo run was overleveling my starter in RBY, but even then I still had a full team by the time I got to the E4.

Has anyone else done a solo run in Gen 6?

Because it's a waste of TMs? they are valuable. if you teach thunder punch to someone, you can't teach it to someone else later. You might regret it.

I never teach TMs. HMs are fine.

I never use TMs.

My Pokemon only know their natural moves, which just feels appropiate, the way it should be.

Some exceptions are Lapras, it's ok to teach her SURF because it fits her.

Or because you need to use HMs to progress the game.

HMs I do teach.

SURF and FLY for my core members, they're viable moves. The rest for HM slaves.

But TMs I always spare. At the end I have almost all TMs in the game, and I can plan on who I will teach them to build an ultimate team.

I've had many 'shitmon' end up being my clutches in-game, including a beedrill in white2. Never overleved either. Had an electrode carry my team hard through the leafgreen e4 too. I was actually pretty surprised by that one.

I used a Beedrill in a FireRed Nuzlocke once, and after my Charmeleon died it carried my entire team to victory. It even took down two of Gary's Pokemon, including Alakazam which scared the shit out of me. And this was in FireRed, way before it got X-Scissor or Poison Jab.
