Ruby/Sapphire was more like Frontier, being the oddman out and everyone was kind of burned out for a bit.
Diamond/Pearl was closer to Tamers because it took some disturbing turns to proceed the plot and it raised the bar so goddamn high it was damn near hard to top for its legendaries.
X/Y is less like Xros Wars and more like that manga with Tai and Veedramon (?).
