Okay, without devolving into shitposting/gen wars, let's try to have a *constructive* thread where we state our SUBJECTIVE OPINIONS on each gen and give actual reasons to back these opinions up.

Pokemon Red/Blue - 7/10 (haven't played in years though so I'm not sure how they hold up now)
Pokemon Yellow - never finished

>Gen 2

Pokemon Gold/Silver - 7.5/10 (also haven't played these in a long time)
Pokemon Crystal - never finished

>Gen 3

Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire - 8.5/10
Pokemon Emerald - 10/10 (obviously my favorite)
Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen - 9/10 (I don't get why these are so hated)

>Gen 4

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - 7/10
Pokemon Platinum - 9.5/10 (loses that last .5 because of the slow battles and so many fucking terrible HMs)
Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver - 9/10

>Gen 5

Pokemon Black/White - 5/10 (least favorite)
Pokemon Black 2/White 2 - 6.5/10, just barely an improvement

>Gen 6

Pokemon X/Y - 6.5/10
Pokemon OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire - 8/10, I understand the hate but personally I really enjoy them.

Also, state your age and what gen you started with. I'm 21 and I started with gen 1.

I'm a Hoennbaby and I like them all but here's mine:

RB- 6/10 basic story not very interested
Y- 6.5/10 just because you can get all the starters
GS-7.5 Two regions and I guess a "long" story
C- 8/10 Eusine theme
RS- 7.5/10 My first games and Steven theme
FRLG- 7/10 Improved on RBY but still decent
E- 9.5/10 The Battle Frontier the Rayquaza cutscene
D/P- 7/10 Everything was slow but had good music I love Route 228
Pt- 8.5 Improved on DP Flint actually has fire types and you can get cross gen evos
HGSS- 10/10 Really improved on GSC walking with pokemon and Eusine theme
B/W- 7/10 Didn't like it until I played it a second time. Loved the story
B2/W2- 10/10 Best in the series for me love how they did the kinda the same thing with GSC. PWT, Marlon, Iris, and Neo Team Plasma are what made this a good game
XY- 6.5/10 good visuals I guess decent music only like Snowbelle
ORAS- 8/10 Loved the music and the visuals but it got watered down

Red/Blue - 10/10 when I played it as a kid, 5/10 now. While somewhat nostalgic to play, i'd rather play FR/LG.
Yellow - 6/10. Didn't care for Pikachu too much. Like the improved sprites though, and the inclusion of Jesse & James made me happy as a kid.
Stadium 1 - 9/10 when using the transfer pack and your games, 7/10 otherwise.

RB - 6/10 Not bad but nothing to distinguish it over any other Pokemon game. Overrated by hipsters.
Yellow - 5.5/10 Added starters but arbitrarily cut others out of the game to make up for it and didn’t really provide anything new to the game. Pikachu following is fun at first but it gets old.

GS - 8/10 Had a few serious flaws but for the first and last time this was where they only added to the game and didn’t cut any features between two gens. Being what they thought would be the last Pokemon game it had a lot of content for its time.
C - 8.5/10 Just as good as Crystal, even had a few more bonus features.
>Gen 3
RS - 7/10 Nice region, great designs, but the removal of features began here, water routes could have had better wild rosters, Hoenn as a whole was smaller than Kanto and Johto put together while better in individual quality, couldn’t catch ‘em all
FRLG - 8/10 Took everything from RG and only improved, added really nice postgame locations with Johto remixes as a nice nod
E - 8.5/10 Made lots of little changes like Gym leader teams, all Pokemon were now available on GBA games, Battle Frontier was a great addition, story wasn’t bad although I find it overrated since it’s basically just ends with a cutscene with the three legendaries and no battle.

DP - 5.5/10 Slow speed in everything, even in Platinum the battles are so slow that I actually have to disable animations and even then it takes too long. Many of the original designs of this gen are shitmons, Sinnoh has it’s charms but several parts of it I can’t stand. I still have trouble with the leaps in logic that Cyrus makes and the things Team Galactic do early on seem to have nothing to do with Cyrus’ goals.
Pt - 7/10 Fixes lots of issues with DP and manages to keep you on your toes during the game. Other than that it still keeps many of the fundamental issues I have with Gen 4 and Sinnoh.
HGSS - 9/10 Other than a few soundtracks it keeps the charm of the originals, adds a little more in. Loses points in my eyes to not fixing the level curve or distribution of Pokemon.

BW - 7.5/10 It took a while for this one to grow on me because of the dogshit graphics and no rematches whatsoever but I liked how they really wanted to do things differently in these games. Some designs were pretty shit but I like a lot of the new pokemon, which were showcased well due to only having new Pokemon pre E4. Lots of locations were honestly amazing and while the story wasn’t perfect it wasn’t the same as the past two gens. I don’t know what it is, but Gen 5 in general also has a “flavor” about it that distinguishes it from Gen 3/4, and when I played 6 it felt like Gen 3/4 again.
Pokemon Black 2/White 2 - 9.5/10 Literally my only complaint was the underwhelming sequel story and muh Purrloin muh rage. Region had a lot of new locations and was about as linear as the games before BW are, after Gen 5 pokemon got to be shown in BW a better regional dex was made, and there were a lot of features to play around with postgame.

XY - 4.5/10 A couple of the locations, the regional dex, and a few mechanics are the only things I really enjoy about these games nowadays. A lot of time was wasted on mediocre features and not on creating a game that people would enjoy playing after the E4. Less new Pokemon meant that there were less to discover and it didn’t really feel as much like a new adventure because of this. I hate the rivals and the Flare arc was incredibly half assed especially the legendaries, you don’t even know where they were living beforehand, they were just waiting in Team Flare’s hideout for you to catch. Routes and Gym Battles were unreasonably dumbed down. Genwun pandering. The one thing I will defend about XY is the 3D and graphics because all of the games are cartoony, the graphics in Gen 5 were comparatively way worse, and it’s good to leave room for improvement for future generations
ORAS - 7/10 It was good as a Hoenn remake and while the story and postgame were an improvement on XY that’s all there is to really say about it. There were several simple things they could have done to improve the game like use Emerald teams, change the wild rosters to include non-RSE pokemon, added a few extra towns and islands ie not generic mirage islands, made the routes more complex, etc, but they didn’t. They could have even added more to the Maison to make it different but it was literally just copy-pasted in.

Absurdly broken battles, absolutely zero content outside of the main "quest", but still a fun game with a nice region design and somewhat good music.
Never played Yellow.

G/S: 7/10
Fixed a lot and added a lot more to the originals, I really like johto the way they linked it with kanto, but the weird level curve progression make those games a little less fun to play than red and blue, at least to me.
Never played Crystal.

R/S: 8/10
Huge improvements over the previous games, both in terms of gameplay and aesthetics. The region of Hoenn is my personal favorite, as exploring it gives a vivid sense of adventure. The plot isn't great and it lacks interesting characters, but it has a whole lot of things to do beside conquering the pokémon league and a stunning soundtrack.
Emerald: 8.5/10
Better story, better battles and more content overall. The Battle Frontier is cool, but I can't really see what's so famtastic about it that everyone seems to love.
FR/LG: 8/10
Definitely the games I spent the most time on as a kid. I can't say for sure what it is that made me love these games so much, I just did. All in all, they're pretty good.

D/P/Pt/Hg/Ss: ?/10
As much as I wanted to, I could never force myself to play more than an hour on those games. I've read countless times that Sinnoh is a fantastic region and the new Johto games are a lot of people's favorite, but I just couldn't (and still can't) get over the horrible speed of the games. I'm not even talking about story pacing, just the time it takes to do any action.

My experience with gen 4 games scarred me enough to make me avoid gen 5 as a whole, and I still did not play any Unova game, so I can't say anything about theme. Some of my favorite pokémon designs are from gen 5, so there's that.

X/Y: 8/10
I personally don't find these to be as bad as many believe them to be. Sure, they could've used some more contentand some graphical optimization for battles, the pacing feels sorta rushed after the 3rd gym and half of the characters are boring and forgettable, but I find Kalos stunning to say the least. It has beautiful environments and lots of variety in wild pokémon. Feels kinda easy compared to older games though and I seriously hope Z/X2/Y2/whatever will fix this. Oh, trainer customization is a dream come true.
Or/As: 9/10
My favorites by far. I still find some decisions questionable (no online contests, no roaming Lati@s...) but the new Hoenn just feels so fresh and mesmerizing, the way they rewrote most characters and the plot is great and makes it all feel new again, and has a splendid ost to top it all. The added features are nice and the missing frontier wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't replaced with a literal copy/paste of Kalos maison.

Pleas don't hate, those are just opinions.

Holy shit go play Black 2 or White 2 right now, they fixed all the speed problems in gen 5, the games are fast as fuck.

The first of their kind, and exceptional games for the time. I find the glitches charming.

A recent nuzlocke of Yellow soured me on the game; it just feels like easy mode RB. The experience is really novel, though.

Day/Night and days of the week blew me away. Johto is cozy as hell and a pleasure to explore. GS is an incredible upgrade of RB, as it was meant to be.

Hated these games at first because no Day/Night, but I got over it and had fun. Best part of RS is the NO GATES between routes/towns. Makes the region flow much better than any other.

These games are in a weird spot for me; they're not old enough to be too nostalgic, and they're not advanced enough to feel new. Still good for a bit of fun.

I don't care how slow and flawed they are, I love them. Played an embarrassingly long time on my Diamond cart.

Just the right amount of challenge, neat region, Day/Night matters, cool postgame island. Just the best.

The heavy emphasis on story really put me off, even if it is a solid story. Unova is cool, but too linear for my tastes.

The garbage story ruins this game for me. The great Pokemon/area/postgame additions aren't enough to make up for it.

A huge, beautiful shift in the way Pokemon games look. Still a bit too linear and easy. The wifi period before Pokebank went up was GOAT

They added gates to Hoenn. Fuck. At least the rest of the game is fun; DexNav is incredible. Maison is disappointing for being used two years in a row.

Is it really that big of a deal? After I've played the game a certain amount of times I generally end up skipping most of the dialogue on subsequent playthroughs. Story is always secondary to other gameplay elements in pokemon to me, and I really don't think B/W's story was THAT good, it was just better than the others.

Games like Bioshock and The Witcher and Mass Effect, THEY tell some good stories.

Well, it's the part of the game you spend the first 10+ hours playing, so yeah. The trouble is that BW2's story was so intrusive to the gameplay that people like me wound up not having fun with it. I can't enjoy an adventure with all these cool Pokemon when the game stops me every town to hand me an HM and tell me about some Purrloin/sister I've never seen.
