The entire region is living under terror as every town has it's own station where the enemy group is stationed. Opposed to having to beat 8 Gym Leaders, you beat 8 different Heads of the team based on different types.
The character you play as isn't just some teenage heading out on some annual adventure, but instead an more mature character that decides to sort shit out himself.
Opposed to the champion being some inspiration figure that comes around every now and then to help you, he/she just shows up to talk shit on you and maybe throw some difficulty your way.
The post-game consists of you traveling to previously explored areas as well as new areas, as there is now a divide in the people who inhabit the region, as half of them believe while the previous Champion WAS an ass-hole he still made the decisions that needed to be made.
At the end of the day, you discover that he never even did anything wrong.
The region is based off Germany.
