I've tried experimenting with the idea of the types being slightly changed. Please tell me what you think could be changed around, which Pokemon's types should be changed, etc.

Plant (replaces grass), Water, Fire, Electric, Normal, Fighting, Poison, Rock, Earth (replaces ground), Bug, Ghost, Metal (sounds sort of better than steel), Magic (replaces fairy), Dark, Dragon, Ice, Psychic, Aerial (replaces flying).
New ones I think could fit are Gas, Fungus, Wood, Light, Ogre, Magma, Cosmic, Cyber and Sound.

Fair enough, I get what you mean and was expecting this, however I believe some mons would be better off with these types, e.g Parasect being fungus (grass/plants aren't fungus obviously). But I respect your argument.

The thing about a "magic" type though is that Ghost and Psychic also express some of the same elements, like Pokemon types in general tend to be more conceptual than literal outside of obvious things like Flying or G/W/F, which is why having so many of them covers so many bases.

To get Magma its just put a ground/fire mom.

I would:

You are left with:
Grass, Fire, Water, Electric, Ice, Earth, Dragon, Magic, Dark, Poison, Steel, Flying, Normal, Fighting.

Magic -> Fighting -> Dark form a new effectiveness triangle.

Earth-type: Strong against Fire/Electric/Poison, Weak against Grass/Water/Ice, Resists Fire/Poison, Immunity to Electric.

Magic type is essentially Fairy and Psychic, it'd be redundant. Sound, Cosmic, and Cyber are ones I could see happening, but I don't want any more types. I do think Plant, Earth, Metal, and Air sound better than their actual types though, and Rock and Ground could fit into one Earth type. But that isn't a necessary change.

Seriously, it's not even a problem for other languages than English (well, each translations has its problems, but that's still as uninteresting for the same reason). It sounds like you believe these translation are a problem inherent to the game, as if they only existed in English. Americanocentrism?

I really like the theme, but I don't think it can make a good pokemon type, for two reasons: first, it would mechanically be the same as Grass, and second, there aren't enough pokemons to justify it (yet). Only the first reason is REALLY problematic. IMO, it makes the Fungus type really unrealistic.

No. Wood = Grass + high def, or Grass + Rock.

Shitty idea, IMO. Almost every fantasy element system has light/divine as an element, it's really boring, uninteresting, unoriginal, and it doesn't fit the pokemon theme.

Fire-Rock and Fire-Ground, period.

>Cosmic, Cyber and Sound
Obviously the most plausible ideas, and also the most popular. I personally think Cosmic is too close to Psychic and don't see it happening. Cyber is a favorite of mine, but almost no pokemon really fits this type (basically, just the Porygon line; the others are more or less forced), so, sadly, I don't see it happening either. Sound, finally, could happen, but it's really unnecessary since all the interesting mechanics (ie. Soundproof, etc) are already here.

In the idea, the Cosmic type would be linked to everything that comes from space: Deoxys, the Clefairy line, Lunatone and Solrock, etc. Obviously, since it is a fan creation, it doesn't have a consensual effectiveness chart.

I always figured electric shouldn't effect flying as flying stuff isn't grounded and won't form a circuit so nothing should happen to it.

On the other hand it should effect ground because they're decidedly on the ground.

Not necessarily.

If you're an animal, like a Sandshrew and happen to be on the ground getting hit by lightning would kill you stone dead because all the electricity is going through you to get to the ground.

Whilst if you're a bird and not in contact with the ground it wouldn't do anything.
