well, mega evolutions that XY doesn't, so if your favorite pokemon got a mega in ORAS you might want to play that.
If you want to play a single player game or want to pirate, black is a good place to start, but it doesn't contain ANY old pokemon until after the elite four. That said, its new pokemon are generally pretty solid. The sequel has a huge amount of pokemon variety but is less cohesive in world and plot. I mean, if you're pirating anyway, might as well get both.
If you want to try gen 4, Platinum is your only real option. It fixes a lot of problems with DP. HG/SS is good too, but you should probably play newer games first so you can see what's changed more clearly.
