Fuck, this. Generally competitive games that have a large amount of characters (Smash, Street Fighter, LoL, and so on) require you to unlock characters, and generally it's not hard to unlock them, you just have play. Unlike those, Pokémon forces you to do a shitload of timey and RGN-based stuff just to breed a single Pokémon for testing purposes.

The mere reason why people play Showdown is because of these horrendous IV mechanics.

Especially since in competitive pokemon, people go for perfect IVs anyway (barring the odd exception). IVs don't mean jack if everyone just breeds for 31s. EVs and natures are enough variance.

Right. IVs aren't interesting, they're just a Good/Bad switch for a pokemon. Natures and EVs are more interesting because you need to neglect one thing to increase another. Helps that they're almost entirely free of RNG too.
