So I found a copy of Black at a garage sale for $12. Never played it when it was new.

Is it still worth playing without the dream world or other online stuff?

definitely. Heck, I found dream world to be a bit of a weakness, so you're not missing much. I just hope you are not overly attached to berries.

They decided to hold access to berries hostage and made you use Dream World if you wanted them.

BW2 fixed this with Join Avenue, though... sort of. Your options will be limited since GTS is no longer a thing, but they were also kind enough to render berries obsolete for EV removal.

Only in the first Black/White. And I found it to be quite nice, personally. Gives the feel that you are in another place in the world, and not just Poke'Japan.

In BW1, yes. The selection and when they become available is mostly okay.

I take issue with the third gym, personally, and that was pretty much it.
