The whole atmosphere of this battle was simply awesome, and Wally is one of few characters to get some actual development. Also, he's qt as fuck.

I always looked at is like this:

Not him, but I prefer RSE Wally as well.
ORAS Wally has much more focus on his battle strength, and the BuzzNav nearly describe him as a child prodigy.
In the originals all the focus was on him being a weakling and ill, I'm not even sure if they mention that he's ill in ORAS.

Basically, him being miserably sick was something not seen in a rival before, but
that is nearly gone in ORAS, now he's just a you g kid tha looks up to you.

I don't remember much of any game aside from R/B/Y because they're the only games I get a nostalgia trip off, otherwise I just battle people if I want to play Pokemon. But Blue had adequate development didn't he? He wanted to have the strongest Pokemon and thought excessive battling was key, he was constantly ahead of you, inflating his ego despite losing to you and got chewed out by his grandfather for finally being told looking after Pokemon was key and shit.

pretty much all the story characters in ORAS got more development. it's one of the things they actually improved on.

It's stated multiple times that he's sick though. The only thing that changed was that he got stronger in ORAS than he was in RSE.

My biggest problem with the Wally fight is that his theme is awful. It doesn't feel like it fits his character at all and it's an incredibly repetitive tune that loops after 40 seconds.

Wally was okay, but I really didn't care for them stopping the game for Maxie/Archie and all their henchmen to monologue about how their views have changed. That's like the most awkward way to handle character development, and most of it felt artificial. Somebody needs to put up a sign in the GameFreak offices with Shakespeare's quote about brevity written on it.

His Gallade should have had top EVs/IVs in Attack and HP and a good range of coverage moves, so it'll probably at least take out one or two of your pokemon before being taken down. Maybe even have him Baton Pass some buffs onto it, that might be too strong for single player though.

Could you tell me where or when it was stated?
The main clue about his sickness was his uncle's quote when you visit them in Verdantuf after beating Wally in front of Mauville, and him saying that the air there is good for his health. However that's gone in ORAS.

I liked that Victory Road theme and the moment was cool as well. Had it been a little tougher to beat him would be great, but then again E4 was right there so kids would probably be overwhelmed.
All in all a nice moment, made me smile.
