You know what argument I'm tired of seeing? The whole "Pokemon is getting easier every gen because [insert boogeyman]" nonsense. Yes, they're getting easier, but none of you seem to understand the real reason.
There's multiple factors of course, but the biggest cause is the fact that every gen adds new battle advantages, but the NPCs are all stuck at Gen 1 levels. Gen 1 was the hardest because your team was pretty comparable to enemy teams. You all had up to six Pokemon, up to four moves, and you battled. Gen 2 introduced held items, but NPCs never used them. You could, which gave you a big advantage. Gen 3 brought abilities, which NPCs promptly ignored while you made your team more powerful. Gen 5 let you infinitely pump your team full of powerful TM moves while NPCs were stuck with level up movesets. Gen 6 introduced the bonuses from Pokemon Amie, which basically gives your Pokemon passive Super Luck, Lucky Egg, Shed Skin, Brightpowder, and a Focus Band at all times. Also Mega Evolution, which makes every generic trainer battle turn into a Super Saiyan curbstomping while your opponent has a team of just Yamcha. Every generation brings new items and moves and tools for the player to use.
But NPCs still battle with item-less plain-jane moveset zero IV'd teams. That's the real reason the games are getting easier.
