Don't forget, for most of the anime's run they were in every single episode, second only to Ash and Pikachu. If they'd been more sporadic from the start it would have probably made them more of a threat but, then again, I'm glad they almost immediately softened them into comic relief because they're quite often the high point of a dull season. Literally the only thing bearable about season four, fucking hell what a slog.
