Youkai Watch seems like a neat niche franchise, but nothing that can overthrow Pokemon.

This. If digimon, yugi-oh, monster rancher and the million other attempts that have been made in pokemon's weren't enough, then this isn't going to be any different. Pokemon will die under its own weight or on its own terms long before anything comes close to conquering it.

Silly. I think it'll be more or less like Medabots: arrive here, get one or two games localized, said games won't sell very well, and then go back to Japan and never leave again.

Plus, Yokai Watch's gameplay is pretty bland, and the games are actually easier than Pokémon.

The only way it could stay longer here would be if the anime managed to be monstruously popular with american kids, but that isn't happening.

It's waaay too Japanese to become the next Pokemon. Unless the localized version is full of neutral looking or westernized designs, I can't see it being anything more than another niche monster catching game.

That being said, I love the designs of the Yokai.
