Back in the day, most of the "dicksucking" was comprised of it being one of Ash's strongest pokemon and having a rare and powerful card. After Gen II, they dropped it for the "next best thing", which didn't quite happen. Hell, the only reason they brought him back in the anime was so Sugimori could show off how his brand new, literal spicy cock was way cooler than that old and busted Charizard everyone kept cheering for for some reason. Charizard was even useless in the metagame for many generations.
The Gen VI appeared and Gamefreak finally realized that Charizard was still one of the most popular pokemon of all time and that they were retards for not appealing to such a big crowd. THAT'S when the dickriding began.
The same thing happened with Greninja, albeit they responded to the enthusiasm way quicker: It was immediately received way better than its teammates and topped every single poll since inception. Once its position was cemented within the Pokemon fanbase, they started dickriding it completely.
