Omicron and Zeta are really damn long if you're looking for something to sink time into, and has a lot of the cool features people like, such as a base, following pokemon, customizable music and stuff like that. It also has built-in randomizer and nuzlocke modes if you want to do that. A lot of the plot and dialogue is pretty meme-tier though. It was made by redditors or something.

Romhacks: Red++ is a really cool hack of red version. Crystal Kaizo is fun as hell. Sacred Gold/Storm Silver are very good imo. Blaze Black/Volt White are good too.

RPG Maker/Essentials: None that I know of are really worth playing right now imo. They're mostly edgy bullshit and not worth your time. Pokemon Sage is the only promising one so far but it's only like 10% done so. Keep an eye out for new demos.
