It's all about context. I've seen Parental Bond work well for a Mega Galvantula, where basically a bunch of Joltik hopped on its back for extra support. Similar to how baby Spiders sometimes hitch a ride on their parents.

Breeding has so many fucked up inconsistencies that it's obviously a game mechanic without much thought put into it at all.
They STILL haven't fixed nidoking and nidoqueen and probably never will. I bet you think towns in the pokemon games literally only have three or four houses in them too.
