1) Getting more merchandise than the base forms.
2) Being used by other players in a competitive environment instead of the base forms.
I doubt you buy merch anyway so the first point is irrelevant. As for the second one, tell me how did mega evolutions ruin things like Scizor, Garchomp and Latios? Barely anyone uses them over the original forms. How did they ruin Beedrill, Mawile or Kangaskhan? Nobody even used them before. How did they ruin Steelix, Camerupt and Audino? Nobody uses them period.
