Most people strive to stand out from the crowd and be acknowledged, but the problem is that most people also lack the drive and will necessary to actually DO something that will make them noteworthy. So what follows is trying to stand out in the way that requires the least possible effort, this in most cases limits itself to liking things that are not common and hating on things that are commonplace.
Because, if you behave the way everyyone else does, and like the same things everyone else does, you are bound to be eclipsed in life by others. Think about it, the people whose names we still record in history books and recall in day to day life are those that were either incredibly good (Jesus, Einstein, Gandhi, Etc) or incredibly evil (Hitler, Mussolini, etc.) Having a full-contrarian opinion makes it so deep inside, they believe they will be acknowledged and maybe even remembered in the future. And judging by the fact that they're getting the attention they "deserve" from people like you, i think it works pretty good.
