m888, adaptability is a good ability that does fit it pretty well. After all, Poliwhirl developed arms to help it adapt better to land, and Poliwrath gets better at using those arms (so that it can fight), which seems to be an adaptation to help it thrive in a new environment.

Drain Punch fits the bulk better, such that it might even find a place in UU.

That logic applies to the bulk of evolutions; Poliwrath itself is a juvenile stage frog at best, it's going to be more fragile in terms of environmental changes than many other Pokemon, save oddities like Parasect.

He did, but it's not really enough. He previously had Meditate, which didn't help either.

Wish he (and every physical electric type) got Volt Tackle. Having to rely on a crappy move like Wild Charge for your STAB is pretty pathetic.

either buff wild charge to flare blitz status and Volt tackle to head smash power

Grass is the worst type in the game for matchups. That's why it has the best support moveset (Spore, Slp Powder, Leech Seed, Growth) and hard hitting options on both the physical and special side (Leaf Blade, Seed Bomb, Wood Hammer, Petal Storm, Leaf Storm, Solar Beam, Energy Ball, Petal Dance). Bad type to attack/defend with but versatile movepool to have access to. The only important thing it doesn't get is priority.
