Fuck weather abilities. Steelix, Houndoom and Swampert could've been something else, then they just slap on the most generic weather abilities. Doesn't help that weather has become an annoying playstyle since you have to keep trying to maintain weather on the field.

Yep, this. There's a myriad of abilities that would've been nice, but they chose a bad one. I can understand WHY they did it, seeing as weather was so dominant last gen, but the nerf made it way too clunky.

That being said, a sun-based ability really doesnt fit Houndoom as best as it could thematically.

It's not like Houndoom is screaming out any other thematic abilities, and Adaptability doesn't NOT fit it, and would be an easy way to make it good. It's clearly a better choice than Solar Power, which hardly even fits Houndoom to begin with, beyond "its a fire type".

The ability is where it went wrong. They should've just let it keep Flash Fire, or, if they really wanted to push it, given it Moxie or Intimidate.

Worst part is, even with Solar Power activating in the sun, it still gets walled by Chansey/Blissey if you don't have a Nasty Plot going, and your stupid Solar Power ability kills you.

that's because "sun" and "sunny day" are actually just called "cleared skies" in japanese. it can be day or night, doesn't matter, the sky is clear that's all it means
that's why the ability is called drought, and not something like strong sun or hot weather or something
