>picking the male for immersion
You want immersion? Here's my thought process.
On the first play through of every game in every gen since 3, I've picked the girl character. I go in blind, knowing nothing, aimlessly drifting and accepting it when I get handheld through a bunch of shit because I generally don't know the path or new features. I make a point to talk to every insipid useless NPC, ie chat it up for fucking nothing, scour every piece of useless shit in the game and use garbage half-assedly trained Pokemon until I've reached the Elite 4. Then, as the girl character, I give up because I have no sense of agency, Fly back to some town and save the game inside the house of a male NPC I thought was "cute" or some other vague descriptor who lives alone. There, I've won the first playthrough. I delete the file. My character has achieved her goal of latching onto a male for the rest of her life.
The real story begins the second time around as the male character, wherein I use my knowledge and skills to advance to a real, concrete goal with determination, ability, and efficiency. I talk only to stranger NPCs who will do something for me. I catch the best Pokemon for the road ahead and train them to par. I get to the Elite 4 and dominate them handily. This ends up being my master save file that I go back and play unless I want to restart the game, having the male character continue to explore the world and complete post game tasks, because he WOULD.
Picking the girl character because dude butte lmao is for retards of the highest order.
