FRLG are just as old as RS so I'm not sure what your point is. Currently there's no way to play GBA cartridges on recent hardware and 'm sure people don't really want to keep their DS lites forever.

Being a recurring theme is exactly my problem with it. How many Kanto iterations do we need? It's not like Johto or Hoenn where those both got one remake and bowed. GF keeps shoveling Kanto over and over and people keep crying for more like they're being starved. It's pathetic.

Sequel to FRLG/HGSS in the mega evolution timeline where you start in Pallet town as a new protagonist, after going through modern Kanto and beating the Pokemon League, the path to Johto opens up.
Johto is also modernized, has its own Pokemon League, Elite 4 and Champion.

Could do a story about a resurgent Team Rocket that wants revenge against Giovanni for ditching them and they create Dark Mewtwo.
