Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed, for example suffer from this. It's really not that special anymore because there was a COD or a AC previous year as well. It's "the same thing every time". COD and AC has that stigma, and making Pokemon yearly also gives Pokemon that stigma.
AC's sales at least have been on a decline. And that's probably because AC isn't that special anymore (among with some buggy games).
Pokemon shouldn't fall the same path. And therefore, I'm glad there is a year break. And it's just a year. Compared to other franchises, this is nothing. Like I said in this post
