So /vp/ my uni is having its first ever pokemon tournament next week and I need to throw together a team and I was wondering if you could help.
The rules state you can have a maximum of two OU and must have at least one UU, RU and NU.
SO far all I've come up with is Unbound Hoopa but other than that I have no clue.

that's actually kind of a fun format. the ou choices are kind of obvious. i'll just suggest lower tier mons.

UU - porygon2, cloyster, madibuzz. I love using mandibuzz. whimsicott has a lot of potential as well. porygon2 never seems to let me down.

RU - drapion, amoongus, rotom mow. drapion is a personal favorite, you could always go citizen snips for cheese. amoongus is obnoxious and rotom mow is a curveball.

NU - garbodor. my favorite pokemon as of late. makes an amazing suicide lead and can shut down a lot of ou pokemon. you will be surprised. (the defensive set on smogon is similar to what i use, but with pain split instead of spikes.)

overall i might suggest you try going with a trickroom team, as it makes a lot of lower tier pokemon very strong...which sort of negates the tier restrictions. reuniclus, conkeldurr, escavalier....they are all lower tier but on a trick room team they become brutal.

i think you should use an ou mega. scizor? megas aren't really my main thing. i often don't use them. i personally like to have a team of strong checks and balances though.

so you could go with scizor and gastrodon...because scizor 4x resists grass and gastrodon 4x resists fire. mega scizor seems dece.

ban legendaries is usually the rule one goes when he and his friend don't follow official rules (figures UNOFFICIAL ones). Maybe if you played more IRL rather then on Smogon you would know. The rules is fine for fun, so that everyone can use whatever they want but avoid things like Arceus and Mega Ray.
Even I whan I play with a friend usually follow this rule loosely, just banning too OP legends like the above mentioned.

Since Hoopa-Unbound is fairly slow, a really fast hard-hitting mega would be great to support it, M-Beedrill, M-Aerodactyl, and M-Sceptile are solid UU options where you can go with M-Lopunny or M-Manectric if you want to use up an OU slot.

If you want to go full Trick Room, M-Camerupt and M-Heracross could be nice.

Togekiss is an excellent option!
I think with Hoopa and Togekiss you're a bit weak to strong physical attackers like Weavile and M-Metagross and Scizor would be a good choice to round out your team, pairing up well with Togekiss, potentially Defogging, and U-Turning to give Hoopa free switch-ins. You could run Mega-Scizor and get a lot of additional bulk or a regular Scizor set.

I see. MeGagross is a solid choice for the mega, but personally I'd recommend something more unusual like Mega Ampharos, might caught off guard few players depending on the set (go for bulky pivot or the agility set).

M-Metagross is a great mega (I think it works better to build around M-Metagross than adding M-Metagross onto a team) but you give yourself a pretty big weakness to Electric-types and Hazards.

If you're going this route, I recommend a solid Ground-type hazard remover like Sandslash or Flygon.

I think a defensive Defog/Roost/Earthquake/U-turn set would be an excellent addition to your team.

You could also potentially replace Roost with Fire Punch or Dragon Claw if you'd rather rely on Wish support from Umbreon to heal Flygon up.

but the idea of a rain team is good, considering weather is less viable so you'll see few counters to it.

From that team, remove seaking and azumarill, and slap bronzong as secondary weather setter.

Huntail is redundant considering Omastar is there. Go for swift swim Kingdra.

Dunno about the last one. Maybe hurricane Volcarona.

Some pretty good megas would be metagross, zard x, gardevoir.
All these 3 pokes can severely dent anything that does not resist their attacks. Plus they have the coverage moves against pokes that resist their STABs.

UU scarf/ life orb meinshao sounds good for the fake out damage or just a hard hitting revenging HJK.
Forretress is also pretty good for stacking hazards and slow volt switching(really helpful).
Scarf Moxie heracross is a pretty cool late game sweeper.

RU spore regenrator amoonguss is pretty cool if you have things you need to shut down inmediately.
Life orb sheer force druddigon is good if you want hard hitters
The rest, i havent played that low in the tiers hahahah

Honestly I would remove Umbreon. Doesn't do anything for the team besides being the usual annoying little shit. Why don't you place Lanturn? it's very underestimated, has an excellent supportiv movepool, and with lighting road it would patch for good the lightning/water/ice weakness your team has (and with two flying types and one levitate user you don't have to worry about EQ).

But rain is a great idea since there are a lot of low-tier rain-dependent Pokemon that are only there because rain isn't allowed below OU. Politoed (setter, PU) and Kabutops (main physical sweeper, NU) are obvious picks. RU has a bunch of options: Omastar as special sweeper, Bronzong as pebble setter and defensive gluemon, Amoonguss as an even better defensive gluemon or something more niche like Specs Rotom-Mow for pivoting and getting rid of bulky Water types. From UU you can take Kingdra, Toxicroak or M-Swampert. Your two OU picks are an open issue. If you forgo M-Swampert, Scizor (offensive pivot with reduced Fire weakness) and Manectric (offensive pivot with 100% accurate Thunder) are your best options. If you forgo Bronzong from RU but still want a more supportive mon, Ferrothorn and Klefki (extra bonus of prankster Rain Dance in case Politoed goes down too early) do a good job. Tornadus-T is another excellent pivot in rain, benefitting from 100% accurate Hurricanes. If you need an extra Grass and Electric resist, Latias does a good job and can Healing Wish one of your rain sweepers back after it's been worn down. Finally Thundurus-I is another good prankster Rain Dance after Klefki and also benefits from 100% accurate Thunders.

Now, if you really want to piss your opponents off, bring M-Sableye/Gothitelle/Blissey/Chesnaught/Amoonguss/Quagsire stall and watch them tear their hair out trying to kill anything.

Btw I get Umbreon is your bro, I was just suggesting putting something that might actually help the team. I think he's a too self-sustaining pokémon (besides maybe Wish, but I don't even remember if he gets it).

About PU, I don't see why you shouldn't be using it.

Are you sure BL mons count as UU? They should count as OU if you ask me. You have 3 right now with Togekiss. Just use physically defensive Zapdos instead of it.
That Umbreon moveset is complete garbage. Just use the standard Foul Play / Wish / Protect / Heal Bell.
I'd rather use a fast offensive defogger Flygon instead of that defensive one, but to each their own.
Sanicgross needs to be sanic. 252 Jolly or Naive is the way to go.
Lanturn is okayish, but it could use extra physical bulk since Umbreon will already wall most special attackers very well. Their heal bells are also redundant. You'll probably want to put Twave there instead to slow things down for Metagross to pick off.

I wouldn't knock umbreon just yet. Synchronize is one of the few ways to fuck with mega sableye's stall. Maybe try a more stally version with toxic/protect/moonlight/heal bell to stall out frail sweepers

I don't get /vp/'s teambuilding process. Usually you want some kind of sweeper and Hoopa has no speed or set-up moves so it can't be that. Then you add in mons that counter your main sweeper's checks and counters, and so on until you have 6 before you playtest.

You can't just theorymon a team of 6 pokemon from /vp/ and expect it to do well, that's literally the point of showderp
