>>24655099I actually LIKE the designs for Gen V and even I can tell you that the designs are clearly meant to mirror Gen I's.
Other people in the thread have already pointed it out, but consider the fact that this region has:
-Rattata and Pidgey clones (Although I don't think this one is that fair since every region has these to begin with)
-Early-on two-evo Rock-type you find in caves, evolves by trading.
-Bat that can be found in the same cave
-Elemental horse/horse-based creature
-Bulky-looking Fighting-types that reach final stage by, again, trade evo
-Normal-type bovine
-Two-stage Psychic evo
-Two-stage water fowl
-Two-stage mole Pokemon
-Two-stage cat Pokemon
-Three-stage amphibian starting with tadpole
-Two Fighting-types with distinct fighting styles implied by design
-Having two three-stage Bug-type lines, one which was Bug/Poison and the other which ended up being "cuter"
-Pollution-based Pokemon
-Two-stage fungus-based Grass-type
-Be-tentacled Water-type, looks similar to jellyfish
-Three-stage Steel-type where the gimmick is it's just more added on
-Two-stage Pokemon line implied to be from space
-Powerful three-stage Ghost-type
-Another one which I used above, but is similar in a different way, is having Bug/Grass and Bug/Poison lines that can be found in the same area
-Two-stage, Japanese lore-based Fire-type
-Cunning, two-staged, feline-based Pokemon
