Yes, there is, since you can get to mahogany city before even fighting the fourth gym, stuff there is terribly low level. The E4 uses mons on the 40s, to put things in perspective in the first gen, in pokemon yellow, the 5th gym leader already had level 50 pokemon

it's so that they don't have to jam all of kanto into lvl 70-100,which would be worse.

the bigger problem though is that the highest level wild pokemon in johto are like level 20 so if you end up having to grind for the e4 you're fucking shit out of luck

It would be great, Kanto is literally 10 times worse since it's all open and you don't really need to do any area in any order, so all gym leaders are level 50 or so, meaning once you're done with them and unlock Red, you'll have to grind the E4 20 times before you're on an acceptable level to beat him.

The same is true for Platinum's slow play speed and BW2's poor story. The greats aren't perfect, but they're great, and each has its own fans.

*Emerald is often argued as well but has much fewer supporters than the other three.

I don't hate them and I'm not trying to say they're bad games, they just doesn't deserve the praise they get. The atmosphere and music are good, sure, but that doesn't make up for that lackluster region or awful level curve. The idea that you can go to Kanto after is cool but you have to admit they could have done a much, much better job with it.

It's pretty unfortunate that they didn't really fix these things in HGSS.

They fixed some of my complaints, at least. Viridian Forest is actually a damn forest again instead of being the pathetic thing it was before. Safari Zone returning was nice too, even if it was in a different location.
