They're people out there who say they love Super Mario but haven't played a single game since Mario 64, but I don't see people who play the current Mario games getting mad over it.

You're disregarding one thing here. Sure, the VC release will sell less (but probably far more than an average VC release), but the workload for releasing these are miniscule compared to making a new game, and the profit margins are much higher.

There almost no chance they edited the actual rom. It's not as simple as you'd think. It would take them more time and effort than they feel it's worth for something like this. The wireless functions are a thing likely from an easily built Link Cable emulator that spoofs the game to thinking a cable is envolved.

I expect we will see this from genwunners in general when it comes out. Even at the height of the craze(which lasted ages) a lot of people recognized the games didn't have a whole lot to do. Even before Battle facilities ever appeared I always felt like Gen 1 and 2 were lacking in endgame.

RBY followed a pretty typical RPG format. After you reach the end of the story, there's nothing much there to keep you playing longer. For those without anyone to trade with, I expect people won't log more than like 24 hours on it.

The main story itself is okay but the game is dated as hell, I mean these games are most likely going to be played in full black and white on the emulator. Normies are going to drop this shit so hard.

Portable games are ones I'm never excited to have on VC. My entire collection of handhelds is still readily accessible, and with most systems being backwards compatible to some extent, it was never hard for me to revisit these games. I just replayed Blue version a few years ago. I'm good.

They are essentially selling an emulator + rom with zero changes, as there are emulators (open source ones) that have wireless/wifi built into them. This is literally nothing new. You can even do this on the 3ds via hacking.

A dev cost of 0
A marketing budget of a couple million or whatever
Milk the genwunners dry. Shit I could see some idiots actually being tricked into buying a 3ds just for this, that's ~$200 just because they released an emulator+rom in the most lazy way imaginable. Damn well wish I was they guy that signed off on this release, I'd be seeing a bonus for christmas.
