-had a much better Safari Zone than HGSS' absolute butchery of the concept
-added dozens of new islands versus HGSS' literally pointless connector routes
-enhanced a minor feature of RSE (cries on routes) into a full fledged feature that is far more useful than the Pokewalker and doesn't require a gimmick accessory
-totally revamped contests rather than adding a bunch of pointless minigames where your Pokemon's attributes don't matter and requiring you to farm them to get half the items in the game
-copypasted a better battle facility than HGSS', which was pure gimmicks
-added an entire postgame story
-ACTUALLY ADDRESSED RSE'S FLAWS. Pokemon distribution opens up hugely after catching Kyogre/Groudon, and Soaring makes getting from place to place a snap without having to dedicate a slot to flyers. Meanwhile HGSS left Kanto a hollow wreck, did nothing to fix the terrible level curve or the piss awful Pokemon distribution, and cemented Johto's position as the worst region.
